From a USA Today bestselling author, a competition between a classical violinist and a rock star cellist sparks a sizzling chemistry in this book that’s “100% pure magic,” perfect for fans of Ali Hazelwood and Abby Jimenez (Christina Lauren). Gwen Jackson is a self-taught professional violinist. Xander Thorne is the exact opposite—a rock star cellist with a bad attitude. They both play in the Manhattan Pops, and their styles couldn’t be more different. When Gwen is offered first chair of the orchestra (a role Xander has coveted for years), she can’t help but notice a hostile sense of competition between them…but also an electric chemistry, as they’re forced to work together. As they compose and play songs together, it’s clear that their powerful connection could make for a performance that will blow everyone’s minds. But can their slowly growing romance survive the pressures of success?

"…And now I’m having regrets that I never committed to playing an instrument. I read this book in one sitting. I loved how it wasnt just about two people falling in love, but was also about their growth and healing as individuals. The build of the relationship between Alex and Gwen, the tension and chemistry, was so well written. Whenever they played music together it felt magical and the cello scene can live rent free in my head forever. I liked this one so much I immediately went and read her first novel, Forget Me Not. I loved this one so much more, but both are worth reading."
"As a professional string musician myself, I was already coming into this from a unique perspective. I really liked their chemistry around the middle and the things he does for her are absolutely swoon worthy. The ending felt very rushed and was unsatisfying. Ava and Mabel felt tragically underdeveloped, as did the explanation of their relationship. I’d read the spicy romantic scenes again, but not much else. "

"3.5

The start was so strong, and then it floundered around 60-70% through. I didn’t love when she was meeting his friends, it felt very fanfic-y in a way that I didn’t appreciate in a traditionally published book. The interpersonal relationship between them was good, but the end conflict was weak. Also, the fact that neither of them could realize that they were being manipulated by the conductor and the agent? Too stupid to have made it into adulthood tbh."
"4 ⭐️

This was really good and I loved reading the passion in their music scenes (as an ex band member myself) but it also felt a bit insta-lovey for me and I felt more chemistry with their music than I did with the actual characters.

It very much gave off Ali Hazelwood vibes though, if that’s what your looking for"
"I was unsure about whether this book was gonna be good or not when I started it.
Well I loved it ❤️"
