"Sloane is a librarian and Arthur is a curmudgeonly, grumpy old man. Possibly the grumpiest old man, he visits the library daily for a verbal sparring match with Sloane. Things go a bit off course when Arthur hasn't been seen for several days. Side note, I enjoyed the book clubs "hot takes" on their reads, especially The Remains of the Day. Great cast of characters. "
"Wow, just wow! This book pulled me in and kept me until the final page. I do have to admit the beginning was as fast paced, but once you find the stride, you realize it was the most crucial point in the book, simply because it set the rest of the book up! Amazingly written, beautiful plot, and a great book! I would recommend to anyone! 4/5 ⭐️ "
"I picked up this book partially because the cover was aesthetically pleasing. From the second I started reading this book, I knew I was going to love it. This is definitely a read where you won't be able to put the book down. I learned many things from the characters of the book, and so will you if you give it a chance. I highly recommend giving this book a read. "
"The Lonely Hearts Book Club by Lucy Gilmore was a feel good, cozy read about found family and the power of books to bring people together. I thought it was precious! Sloane is a librarian who lives a pretty calm life. She is engaged to a chiropractor and loves her job. She even loves when the grumpy old curmudgeon Arthur comes in the library and insults her. When he doesn’t show up for several days, she investigates and finds him sick, bedridden and running off every nurse trying to help. (He reminds me of the main character in A Man Called Ove.) Sloane decides to help whether he wants it or not -because she knows he secretly does. She starts a book club with neighbors and soon they are all filling voids they never knew they had. I thought it was quirky and heartwarming. I loved it."
