Brandon ReedIn this film, Godzilla is depicted as an unstoppable, terrifying force without equal. The monster and the plot itself is allegory for WW2, criticizing the Japanese government's lack of care for its servicemen's lives when facing the Allied Powers. Not every giant monster movie has to be a WW2 allegory, but I think all movies are best when they have a point. Even if the point is as simple as "Courage and heroism are good," it still elevates the film a little.

Andrew WinterHe’s a giant robot, built to smash and destroy. But he doesn’t want to. Brad Bird ask himself “what if a Gun had a soul” when coming up with this script. And somehow, we are now asking that of Godzilla; to try to interpret this personified nuclear bomb as a protector. And those, to me, never worked. It was the Iron Giant all along
