"Trust me, I've wanted to punch you in the face a time or five." When the man you worshipped as a kid becomes your coach, it's supposed to be the greatest thing in the world. Keywords: supposed to. It didn't take a week for twenty-seven-year-old Sal Casillas to wonder what she'd seen in the international soccer icon-why she'd ever had his posters on her wall, or ever envisioned marrying him and having super-playing soccer babies.Sal had long ago gotten over the worst non-break-up in the history of imaginary relationships with a man that hadn't known she'd existed. So she isn't prepared for this version of Reiner Kulti who shows up to her team's season: a quiet, reclusive shadow of the explosive, passionate man he'd once been. Nothing could have prepared her for the man she got to know. Or the murderous urges he brought out in her. This was going to be the longest season of her life.

"This was absolutely amazing! It was a very slow burn (not as slow as The Wall of Winnipeg and Me) so the beginning was a bit slow, but by 50% in, I couldn’t stop listening to it! It’s slow enough that nothing romantic happens until 90% in, and it becomes quite spicy in that last 10%. However, while there wasn’t spice for most of the book, there was enemies-to-friends-to-lovers and it was such a good build of a romance. The friendship, the support Kulti had for Sal, the cute nicknames - I’m in awe. This is a romance worth dreaming over and the kind that is more than passion. It’s genuinely knowing the worst and best part of someone and still choosing to be by their side. The friendship that was built was perfection. I could rate this lower because of repetitiveness and too much inner monologue, but the romance is worth all 5 stars. (3.5/5 for spice)"

"4/5. I enjoyed reading this book. If you’re here for the romance, it takes a WHILE. Definitely a slow burn as noted in the previous comments. Might be a bit confusing at the beginning in terms of motives behind actions but once you get further into the book it all comes together."
