ingyin. He definitely gave off “he’s up to something” vibes—whether it was romantic, political, or both. Either way, Xingyin figured it all out and absolutely kicked ass while doing it! Overall, I loved the romantic elements, but I’m glad they didn’t overshadow the story. Did I mention there are magical McGuffins and DRAGONS?! And not the typical "evil monsters to be slain" kind. These are wise, powerful beings whose essence has been imprisoned, forcing our lead to wrestle with her own desires versus doing what’s right. Sue Lynn Tan’s vivid descriptions of the dragons make them leap off the page, detailed enough to be mesmerizing yet never slowing the pace. Xingyin’s various assignments, quests and ties to family were a joy to follow and tied seamlessly into the larger plot. I can’t wait to dive into the next book to see how it builds on this installment and continue the journey!30:T5f0,I will start by saying in the first chapter I thought this was about a child who was about 5-8 years old then after chapter two I was sucked in and I absolutely loved it. I bought the book at Barnes and noble on my trip home to visit my family and I am in love with this cover, I would definitely hang this as an art piece, I loved the friends-to-lovers trope and the love triangle. I loved the competition aspect although I do wish it were longer. I loved the Chinese mythology. this book was so beautifully written I can't believe that this is a debut novel. I can't wait to read everything to comes from this author. Such a lovely story. I would definitely recommend it.
