The groundbreaking National Book Award Finalist and Michael L. Printz Honor Book with more than 3.5 million copies sold, Speak is a bestselling modern classic about consent, healing, and finding your voice."Speak up for yourself—we want to know what you have to say." From the first moment of her freshman year at Merryweather High, Melinda knows this is a big lie, part of the nonsense of high school. She is friendless, an outcast, because she busted an end-of-summer party by calling the cops. Now nobody will talk to her, let alone listen to her. As time passes, Melinda becomes increasingly isolated and practically stops talking altogether. Only her art class offers any solace, and it is through her work on an art project that she is finally able to face what really happened at that terrible party: she was raped by an upperclassman, a guy who still attends Merryweather and is still a threat to her. Her healing process has just begun when she has another violent encounter with him. But this time Melinda fights back—and refuses to be silent. From Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award laureate Laurie Halse Anderson comes the extraordinary landmark novel that has spoken to millions of readers. Powerful and utterly unforgettable, Speak has been translated into 35 languages, was the basis for the major motion picture starring Kristen Stewart, and is now a stunning graphic novel adapted by Laurie Halse Anderson herself, with artwork from Eisner-Award winner Emily Carroll.Awards and Accolades for Speak:A New York Times BestsellerA National Book Award Finalist for Young People’s LiteratureA Michael L. "This book touches on the experiences the main author goes through as she navigates the first year of high school after going through such a traumatic event as rape. It’s very eye opening and very inspiring."

"Great sad book but it made you aware of what some teenagers go through."

"Not gonna lie this book was really boring to me I couldn't finish it and not even half as good as wintergirls in my opinion."

"It really just drags. I understand this is a beloved book but boy was this a snail of a book and by the reveal every possible thing has been imagined so it was a massive letdown."

"rating it so low because I didn't enjoy it, read it for school, and with the SA in there, it was just not awesome..."

"Emotional, unfiltered, and all together a hard read. It’s a quick read because of the way that it is written, but emotionally it can be difficult to get through. Definitely would not suggest to someone who triggered by themes of SH or SA because those are the main topics of the book. Those topics are extremely important to educate ourselves on, and it’s good that they are being written about, but always take care of yourself first and know your limits. "

"A truly heartbreaking but heroic story. I could relate to Melinda in different ways through out the book. I found myself wanting to scream at her. I think because I saw myself in her. If you ever struggled or are currently struggling in highschool this is a good read. 8/10"
