Watchmen - Likewise Book Reviews
"I'm not a comic person, but a friend loaned me his copy. I figured I'd give it a shot. It was slow for me to get into, but I got absolutely hooked in the 4th chapter. I understand the significance of this comic series far more and have a deeper appreciation for it. Gritty through and through, it shows the darker side of superheroes and humanity. All of the characters are dynamic and flawed, which makes following their journey through the story far more interesting. What The Watchmen achieved can only be done through the comic/graphic novel medium. I'm glad I experienced it. "
"I can see why The Watchmen was so groundbreaking when it was released - especially since it came out prior to DC's Vertigo imprint, which is really where it needs to go - but I am not sure it has aged well. As I am used to comics from today, the garish coloring immediately threw me out of the story. Also, I quickly got frustrated with the characters who were unable to see what was really going on. And the ending was on par with It."
"2/1/09-I am very impressed by this book. It is interesting. The Comedian's (Eddie Blake) been killed and <b>everybody</b> thinks it's Hollis Mason, the original Nite-owl, well Rorshach does anyway. Dan Dreidberg thinks that the killing was a political killing. But Rorshach thinks otherwise, he thinks that, "maybe someone's picking off costumed heroes." So he goes to the heroes to warn them. First he saw Veidt, he thought the Comedian was practically a Nazi. So Rorshach goes to warn Dr. Manhattan and his friend Ms. Jupiter. Ms. Jupiter thinks that Blake deserved to be killed, because he tried to rape her mother."
"<strong>3*</strong><br/><br/>The story overall was great. The only reason this is 3 is because of some of the unnecessary additives. I didn’t need the little comic book in the comic book. I didn’t need the little news articles and interviews. Some were good some were just a snooze fest."

"I've seen a lot of folks reading graphic novels and I've never read one, so I thought I'd give it a try. I saw other reviews saying this is one of the best ever, and decided this would be the one I tried. <br/><br/>It was a little difficult at first to get used to the rhythm of the story, but once I did, this was a very enjoyable experience. The artwork is amazing and the story was very easy to follow. I found it very difficult to put it down and I was disappointed when I reached the end. <br/><br/>The book is divided up into 12 chapters, which is each issue of the original release. So if you're like me and don't like stopping in the middle of a chapter, make sure you have about an hour free to finish each issue."

"Some starkly disturbing imagery and upsetting plot but the underlying ideas and character dynamics were so intriguing, and that’s what stays with me most and what matters. Dark but ponderous."
"My thoughts on this are so hard to pin down. The first time I read it, so many years ago, it already had such a following around it, and I felt somewhat disappointed. It didn't seem to measure up. Yet, after putting it down, I couldn't stop thinking about it. Still, probably 20 years since I first read it, I have such mixed feelings about it. The plotting of the book is superb, and the characterizations are good, although some of the tropes that Moore goes back to again and again are in this work as well. There are parts of the book that drag, and I can certainly be happy and fulfilled if I never read the damn pirate story again. But I can't deny that this story got under my skin and has never left; it demands a critical analysis more than any other comic I can think of, and it gives you plenty of things to analyze."
