From the bestselling author of Husband Material comes a lush, sweeping queer historical romance where sparks fly between childhood friends after a life-changing separation—perfect for fans of Bridgerton, Evie Dunmore, and Lisa Kleypas! When Viola Carroll was presumed dead at Waterloo she took the opportunity to live, at last, as herself. But freedom does not come without a price, and Viola paid for hers with the loss of her wealth, her title, and her closest companion, Justin de Vere, the Duke of Gracewood. Only when their families reconnect, years after the war, does Viola learn how deep that loss truly was. Shattered without her, Gracewood has retreated so far into grief that Viola barely recognises her old friend in the lonely, brooding man he has become. As Viola strives to bring Gracewood back to himself, fresh desires give new names to old feelings. Feelings that would have been impossible once and may be impossible still, but which Viola cannot deny. Even if they cost her everything, all over again.

"I thought the representation in A Lady for a Duke was positively delightful. Watching Viola and Gracewood reconnect was a heartfelt journey towards relearning a relationship when both parties could be their true selves. It was clear throughout the story that Viola and Gracewood had great love for each other. I have to admit I did have some reservations about Viola faking her death. I really dislike this trope, in fact I just read a book that had the same trope and it was one of the reasons I disliked that one so much. However, because this lie only went on for two years it was a little easier to move past. Overall I did enjoy the story, and I loved getting to know Gracewood’s sister. I hope in the future a book is written about her!<br/><br/>Thank you to Edelweiss for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review."

"Amazing. A tender slow burn written with poignant, evocative language. It’s long because the interior development is so intricately done. Take the time and savor it."

"Absolutely love this book. The relationship between the two main characters is so enduring. All the other characters have so much charisma."

"How lovely to read a romance featuring a trans heroine! Her HEA happens, of course, but not without significant processing of what that will mean for her hero. (And the sex scenes are very hot!) "

"This was 100% what I needed to come out of historical romance. I am in love with Viola Carroll's fierceness and her commitment to being truthful! "

"<b>He wanted to look at her like he wanted to breathe, like she was breath and he was drowning, and every moment of his not looking was a struggle towards the thing he most needed.</b><br/><br/>This was a nice regency era romance read. I’ve never read anything from this author but I liked it. I thought the romance was well written and the main characters had great chemistry. This book is long(too long tbh) so the characters were able to really develop and fall in love with each other. I liked the journey of both characters but especially the fmc with her being queer in this time period. This length of this book made the will they won’t they aspect annoying but overall I thought this was an emotional and touching romance. Some content warnings include ptsd, deadnaming, substance use disorder and suicidal ideation. <br/><br/>Tropes/themes: <br/>- Queer romance <br/>- Trans rep<br/>- Close friends to lovers<br/>- Historical romance <br/>- Emotional and angsty <br/><br/>Rating: 3.75/5"
