Winner of the first Anthony Award for Best Novel, B is for Burglar is the second in the Kinsey Millhone mystery series by Sue Grafton.Female, age thirty-two, self-employed and wiser than she used to be. For Kinsey Millhone, private investigator, only one thing stays the same. When a client sits down in the chair across the desk, she never knows what’s going to happen next . . . There was nothing about Beverly Danziger to cause Kinsey concern. She was looking for her sister. There was a will to be settled. She paid up front. And if it seemed a lot of money for a routine job, Kinsey wasn’t going to argue. She kicked herself later for the things she didn’t see – Beverly Danziger did not look as if she needed a few thousand dollars and she didn’t seem like someone longing for a family reunion. But just as Kinsey begins to suspect foul play and start asking questions, Beverly Danziger pulls her off the case and fires her . . .

"Grafton really steps it up a notch in B for Burglar.

Kinsey, recovering from her bullet wound, is itching to get back to work. She is hired by a woman named Beverly Danziger to find her estranged sister, Elaine Boldt. Beverly needs Elaine to sign some documents so that they can receive an inheritance from a deceased relative. Has Elaine taken a detour from her regularly scheduled trip to Florida, or has something happened to her? The more Kinsey learns about Elaine's family and friends, the more questions she has to answer, and no one seems to be forthcoming with information.

From Cali to Florida and back again, Kinsey unravels a mystery much more complex than anyone could have imagined.

Something I noticed (granted, this was written in the 80s and I was much younger when I read it the first time) is that Kinsey has a major distaste for overweight people. I wouldn't call it discriminatory, per se, but a lot of description seemed to go into overweight people, and not in a flattering light.

On to C, which if I remember correctly, is a bit of a sad one. :("

"I have read all the alphabet murder books. The ending is very satisfying because Kinsey always solves the crime. "
