Fate brings together a ballet teacher and a hockey player in this big-hearted novel about second chances and taking risks by the bestselling author Entertainment Weekly calls the “master of witty banter.” Once upon a time teenage Aurora Evans met a hockey player at the Mall of America. He was from Canada. And soon, he was the perfect fake boyfriend, a get-out-of-jail-free card for all kinds of sticky situations. I can't go to prom. I'm going to be visiting my boyfriend in Canada. He was just what she needed to cover her social awkwardness. He never had to know. It wasn't like she was ever going to see him again... Years later, Aurora is teaching kids’ dance classes and battling panic and eating disorders—souvenirs from her failed ballet career—when pro hockey player Mike Martin walks in with his daughter. Mike’s honesty about his struggles with widowhood helps Aurora confront some of her own demons, and the two forge an unlikely friendship. There’s just one problem: Mike is the boy she spent years pretending was her “Canadian boyfriend.” The longer she keeps her secret, the more she knows it will shatter the trust between them. But to have the life she wants, she needs to tackle the most important thing of all—believing in herself.

This book was so much fun! It was pretty fast paced and definitely an easy read! I read it in a day! The plot was quite amusing and the characters were beyond lovable! Aurora and Mike were both so amazing, and I loved their character development throughout the book! Mike was so sweet with both his daughter, Olivia, and with Aurora! It was adorable! This book was funny, had plenty of banter, and leaned towards being lighthearted most of the time, but it also deals with some pretty heavy/sensitive subjects, so I would recommend checking the trigger warnings. The ending felt a bit rushed, but overall I definitely enjoyed this book! Hockey player x ballerina, single dad/widower, forced proximity, friends to lovers, slow burn, found family, great therapy representation/positivity, a teeny-tiny pinch of spice, and dual POV! This book will definitely tug at your heartstrings! 10/10 would recommend!"
"Cute slow burn second chance spicy romance. Widower, single dad, and hockey player Mike, finds love and happiness again with a former 🩰 dancer Aurora. Together they learn to find a good work/ life balance, and how to love themselves and each other, and fall in love on their journey together. A beautifully written Canadian rom com."

"This book was so adorable and emotional and not what I thought it was going to be. There was a lot of emotion and healing and some really heavy topics. Mike and Aurora both had a ton of stuff to work on and I loved seeing them do that together and independently. I loved seeing them grow and change and eventually fall in love.

I will say that the actual “Canadian boyfriend” part of the story, is so small that I actually forgot about how all of this started. I wish that it actually was a bigger part of the plot than it was just given the synopsis and title."
