#1 international bestselling author of Thirteen Reasons Why Jay Asher and co-author Jessica Freeburg brilliantly reimagine the classic Pied Piper legend as a powerful graphic novel about loneliness, love, and vengeance. Fans of Through the Woods by Emily Carroll will devour this eerie, atmospheric retelling. “A moving graphic novel about isolation, love, and retribution, this dark version of a familiar tale will remain with readers long after the last page is turned.”—School Library Journal Long ago, in a small village in the middle of a deep, dark forest, there lived a lonely, deaf girl named Maggie. Shunned by her village because of her disability, her only comfort comes from her vivid imagination. Maggie has a gift for inventing stories and dreams of one day finding her fairy-tale love. When Maggie meets the mysterious Piper, it seems that all her wishes are coming true. Spellbound, Maggie falls hard for him and plunges headfirst into his magical world. But as she grows closer to the Piper, Maggie discovers that he has a dark side. The boy of Maggie’s dreams might just turn out to be her worst nightmare… With striking illustrations from Eisner-nominated artist Jeff Stokely, mixed with Jessica Freeburg's work on historic and legendary horrors, Piper is an exciting new departure for Jay Asher that deftly touches on the same themes of truth, guilt, and redemption that made Thirteen Reasons Why a beloved bestseller.

"Let's start with the good parts. This had amazing art, the character they think we'd pretty developed. It did a lot of showing, not telling, which I think is what a graphic novel wants to do, but sometimes it's hard. The bad parts it felt like I was like skipping pages in between. Like I would go to the next page. And it wouldn't translate better onto the next page. For characters suddenly, suddenly start talking about something else. But it's a little cute story."

"Images: 4 stars<br/>Story: 2 stars<br/><br/>I felt there were missing elements in the plot. I would even double check that I didn't miss a page or misread a speech bubble. If had been developed more I think it could've been good. The artwork was great and there was a bit of creepiness to the story that was good. Just needed more development."

"This haunting but power graphic novel captured my attention from the moment I started reading it. This is a story about love and power and vengeance. Though the plot was a bit dark (as I know nothing about the original Pied Piper tale), it was great none the less. There were parts that were a bit hard to follow, but nothing major. The artwork in this graphic novel was also amazing."

"<strong>A good short read</strong><br/><br/>I enjoyed this book as much as the rest of the series. This is a cute short read with a HEA. Piper and Dillon are sweet together. Worth the read. Great job Loni."

"Piper is a retelling of the Pied Piper in Hameln. The main protagonist is a Maggie, a deaf girl that was rejected by members of the town she lives in, but is still an overall good person. She longs for romance and believes she has found it when the piper roles into town to rid them of the rats. <br/>This story felt a little rushed and short. I liked Maggie, but she seemed like a Mary Sue character. All the characters were a little cliche honestly. The graphics in this novel were great. I think this book would be better suited for young teens. Overall this novel was okay, definitely not one of my favorites."
