As darkness falls after sunset, the corelings rise—demons who possess supernatural powers and burn with a consuming hatred of humanity. For hundreds of years the demons have terrorized the night, slowly culling the human herd that shelters behind magical wards—symbols of power whose origins are lost in myth and whose protection is terrifyingly fragile. It was not always this way. Once, men and women battled the corelings on equal terms, but those days are gone. Night by night the demons grow stronger, while human numbers dwindle under their relentless assault. Now, with hope for the future fading, three young survivors of vicious demon attacks will dare the impossible, stepping beyond the crumbling safety of the wards to risk everything in a desperate quest to regain the secrets of the past. Together, they will stand against the night.Look for Peter V. Brett’s complete Demon Cycle: THE WARDED MAN | THE DESERT SPEAR | THE DAYLIGHT WAR | THE SKULL THRONE | THE CORE

"Great book! Reminds me of shadow hunters/ Mortal Instruments, so if you like those I recommend this book for you."

"That’s a hard one! I would have to say Pierce Brown, Michael J Sullivan, Sarah J Mass, and Brandon Sanderson. I know there are more, but those are the ones off the top of my head. Yours?"

"Was looking for a nice adventure/fantasy to follow a character that developed through stages (ex. Page, Squire, Knight) and this provided that and more!! Great characters and super original magic, world, and plot 🤩🤩🤩"

"This is one of my favorite books. I've read it twice in physical book form and listened to the audiobook as well. Had a bit of a hard time getting it to it at first but now I love it!"

"Pleasantly surprised! Couldn’t put it down. I’m a tough critic and n books, picked this up in an airport and couldn’t put it down. Good character building, lots of ups and downs, few disappointments. Fast paced, interesting. It’s a story of 3 characters that come together in the end, so there is some bouncing around. Main character became an orphan, in a world where dragons rise with the setting sun. The only protection is magic wards etched around houses to keep them safe. "
