"Really well written and draws you in. I love the concept, the story stays interesting, and the characters feel very real (including the dragons). There's no perfect Mary Sue type characters. It doesn't avoid or excuse the ugliness of the era (sexism, slavery, etc...), but it doesn't get preachy about it. Like, it's made clear that those things are wrong in a very natural seeming way that doesn't pull you out of the story. I love how real this series feels. It almost makes me believe in dragons!"
