"The plot line seemed to move too fast and it seemed a lot of the plot was lost in the process. "

"ARE WE KIDDING?!?!? THIS WAS INSANE <br/><br/>THE ENDING?!?!?<br/><br/>i’m so so excited to read allegiant <br/><br/>i think it was interesting how separated tris and tobias were for this book. at first it was kinda upsetting but it definitely made it more interesting and more sweet when they came together in the end.<br/><br/>i’m so glad that christina was able to make up with tris. it totally made sense that she needed some time but i’m glad it ended up well<br/><br/>marlene and lynn"

"I really liked divergent but this book was terrible. Tris was this awesome badass female lead in book one but she was a shell of herself in this one with no character growth. The last book in the series was by far the worst too since the author switched up her whole writing style because she wanted to pull off a terrible twist ending. Don’t waste your time with this series. "

"I am happy that this novel met my expectations. The first book left a few undone items that this book was able to creatively explore. I found some of the action sequences and transitions between events to be rushed or implausible, but I expected this book to be about Tris struggling with PTSD and grief. The exploration of those themes was nuanced and I appreciated how that helped round out Tris’s character, even if I had to occasionally suspend my disbelief for the sake of engaging with the plot. "
"It was a good book I guess I. will say I got bored it wasn’t as good as the first book and for the first time I think the movie was just a tiny bit better then the book. I’m inclined to read the next book but I’m not dying to read it and I’m not excited to read it it’s more of I’ll read it if I find it. "
"I enjoyed this book but it definitely went downhill, parts of it are so slow or confusing. There were times I didn't even want to pick the book back up, if I could I would give this a three and a half, but I can't so I'm just rounding up to a four. Because overall I did enjoy this more than some of the other books I have read."
"Enjoyed! Definitely thought this book served as a second book to the Divergent series. Feeling all the waves of emotions Tris was having about family/ friends the life she lives. If I didn’t know how the third book ends, this book sure left me wanting to read the next book. However because I accidentally spoiled the last book for myself, I hate to say I’m not looking forward to reading the next book, but I will to complete the trilogy. If you read this and are unsure of reading the series, I still highly suggest to read Divergent and Insurgent! Allegiances, here I come:) "
"I liked that Insurgent expands on the world. We get to see Amity, Candor and a little of Erudite. There are a few scenes that were good and funny. <br/><br/>What brought the book down was Tris and Four characteristics got changed. Tris was extremely smart in the first book. In this book all of a sudden Tris turned into the kind of person that runs into danger without thinking. She didn’t listen to anyone. She did her own thing. Everyone acted like she was always like this.<br/><br/>Four become kind of a jerk. Not in the same way as the first book.<br/><br/>Tris and Four’s relationship became so much drama. They would make out and fight so much without moving the plot along. They would fight over either nothing or Tris being reckless. That was a dramatic character change that was not even supposed to be there. Except for the making out Tris and Four were never on the same page during this book. <br/><br/>I felt like after the first book the author didn’t know where to take this series. It kinda goes down hill after the first book. There was a lot of just traveling between the different faction and talking."

"Wasn’t as good as the 1st book. Started disliking the main character and her choices. "
"I am solely giving this 4 stars because I love the series but this just wasn't it compared to the first book. This second book was still good considering that the entire series is AWESOME but I feel like so many times throughout it was Tris blabbering about her emotions and not being able to shoot a gun. About 60% through is when a lot of the action and climaxes comes back which makes the book revert back to an entertaining read. I actually liked the ending a lot! It wasn't at all what I imagined at all but in typical Roth fashion, we end the book on another jaw-dropping cliff hanger."

"I liked the story line, but the first book was still way better. I found that this book was quite slow. I find that second books, in many cases, are slow or just not as good as the first or last book.<br/><br/><br/>UPDATE:<br/><br/>I loved this much much more than I did the first time I read it. I’m so glad I decided to reread this trilogy. I loved everything that happened in this book. I don’t know how I found it to be slow the first time around."

"It was just as good as the first. I love Tris and Four! Tris was suffering from a lot of emotional turmoil after losing not only her mother but her father too. She just isn't the same but she is still "dauntless" in her quest for the truth and I admire her fight against adversity. Four has also come a long way since we first met him in the first book and he continues to impress me with his insurmountable spirit. I can't wait to see what happens next since they finally know what Abnegation was hiding all of this time that Erudite was willing to enslave two other factions and kill many innocents to get. We also found out the Tris was betrayed and by someone even I wasn't expecting. I wish the next book was out already!!"

"<br/> <br/> I was confused throughout the story, which is frustrating. The action was great as was the romantic aspect (although i wanted more between Tris & Four). I know the end was supposed to wow me, but I can't decide if it's kinda brilliant or just ridiculous. Does anyone else feel this way??? I am still very excited for the final book. I hope it clarifies enough of the confusion & brings everything full circle to give a satisfying end."

"I liked the book but I wouldn't say it's worth it. Not unless you liked the first book and are really invested in the story. "

"Yeah sure! Make sure you read the first book divergent, I think this is the second one ☺️"
"I loved the first book Divergent, and it's definitely the best in the series. I didn't really like Insurgent or Allegiant but I definitely disliked Insurgent the most out of the 3. I'd recommend still reading the series as the first book is great and after it you'll still want to know how the story ends. "

"Insurgent is about how Tris learns more about being DIVERGENT. She gets help from her loved ones even if they are not physically with her. Tris works hard to protect herself and others. She started the war and now she has to end it once and for all. She is transformed by her decisions. <br/><br/>Insurgent is, like Divergent, an amazing book. I personally think it is better that The Maze Runner. I an't wait to see the movie. I also can't wait to read Allegiant. Veronica Roth is the best author of books I've read so far. She is very descriptive."
"This book traveled with me to Istanbul and back. It survived four plane rides, a trip to Isnik and Bursa, and an unfortunate Coke stain. <br/><br/>It has been a really long time since I read the first book of this trilogy. In fact, I think it will be four years this summer. As far as young adult dystopian fiction goes, this book is up to par with the first Divergent and the Hunger Games. Yet, as someone who has not read young adult in a while, I was both delighted by the quickness that I could read it and disappointed in its ultimate unfolding. The one thing that kept me excited was that it is now a movie, and I am looking forward to seeing how accurate this book is portrayed on the big screen.<br/><br/>In short: Delightful Dystopian Young Adult Read, Unclimactic As Far As Books Go."
"I wish that I had made myself sit down and write this review right after I finished the book. I've been away from it for over a week now, and am about 70% done with [b:Allegiant|18710190|Allegiant (Divergent, #3)|Veronica Roth|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1395582745s/18710190.jpg|15524549] now, so things are getting muddled. As it stands, I don't know exactly how many stars I want to give this book. I'm gonna go with 2, though it's probably closer to 2.5. <br/><br/>Sometimes when I read a book, one word/thought will repeat in my head. For example, when I read [b:The Book Thief|19063|The Book Thief|Markus Zusak|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1390053681s/19063.jpg|878368], I kept thinking "AMAZING." Trudging my way through the hot mess of the [b:Twilight|41865|Twilight (Twilight, #1)|Stephenie Meyer|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1361039443s/41865.jpg|3212258] series, it was "GAG ME WITH A SPOON" that I couldn't stop thinking. When I read [b:The Fault in Our Stars|11870085|The Fault in Our Stars|John Green|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1360206420s/11870085.jpg|16827462], I constantly screamed "PRETENTIOUS" (in my head, though I did audibly groan a LOT). While reading this book, I kept thinking "JUVENILE." <br/><br/>My following thoughts may be considered spoilery, so I'll put 'em under a cut!<br/><br/><spoiler>All the characters' words, actions & relationships were just so incredibly juvenile and immature. It <i>really</i> bothered me. And the "relationship" between Tris and Tobias reminded me of the Bella and Edward fiasco. Super possessive/obsessive behavior, and all that crap about "risking your life without telling me" yadda yadda yadda. I wanted to strangle Tobias and smack Tris. <br/><br/>(How long have they known each other, exactly? I had a really hard time figuring out the timespan of these books. How long was initiation? Weeks? Months? I was never really sure. I know at one point Tris talks about summer, and then she talks about it being cold, but then it's back to summer? I know we're talking about Chigaco, here, but I was pretty confused. I had no idea what month or season it was, and I'm not sure the author knew, either.)<br/><br/>The Tris/Tobias thing never really fit with me. I really haven't been able to bring myself to care about their relationship. It doesn't feel real, or based on anything other than lust. That might work for a romance novel, but not for something like this. If these teenagers are supposed to be in love, show me how they've connected, how they've really grown close, how they support and understand each other. I saw opportunities for such things, but it never happened. <br/><br/>Another thing that never really materialized was what, exactly, made people afraid of Divergents. People, especially children, were scared of Tris. There were whispers of why, but it was never really explained. I feel like it was just another example of something the author never really figured out herself. Again, I felt like there were so many times the characters could have done something to show what they feared, but...it just fell flat. <br/><br/>Flat is perhaps how I would describe the characters. Have any of them changed? Have any of them grown? Have they learned from their experiences? The only character that sorta-kinda-maybe falls into this category is Caleb. He hasn't really changed, but there is a -gasp- secret he is keeping. But even that doesn't last. Is he good? Is he bad? Was he brainwashed? Did he really align himself with Jeanine? Who knows? I certainly don't. Oh, I guess there is some slight redemption of Peter, but that barely scratches the surface of his character, and is so predictable I called it in book one. <br/><br/>The "climax" of this book was...very anticlimactic to me. Partly because I knew what was going to happen to Jeanine, and partly because it felt so rushed and just flung together by the author. Or perhaps it was just that there was so much <i>nothing</i> happening throughout this entire novel that when something did happen, it felt...flat. I don't know. It just felt like it could have been so much better. I thought the "reveal" was interesting and did make for a decent set-up for the final book, but I just feel like it should have been handled differently. <br/><br/>I can't even remember much about their time with Amity or Candor. Just that it made me want to roll my eyes and get to some plot development already. That, really, was possibly my biggest qualm with the entire book. I'm sure there was a lot more I wanted to say, but I can't remember. <br/><br/>All in all:<br/><br/>1. So much of this book series has been done before (the "choosing ceremony" & factions are basically dystopian recreations of the Harry Potter sorting & houses; the antagonistic relationship between Tris & Peter is basically drawn from Harry/Draco; the slightly misogynistic/crazily over-protective boyfriend nicked from <s>Twatlight</s> Twilight; main character traumatized by violence like Katniss in Mockingjay...). And, the truth of the matter, it was done <i>better</i> originally (except perhaps Edward/Bella because I can't bring myself to say that mess was better than anything).<br/><br/>2. I feel like this book was drawn out unnecessarily. It could have been a few chapters instead of a whole book. <br/><br/>3. This book had potential, but fell flat time after time (much like the <s>Twatlight</s> Twilight books). </spoiler>"

"This is a collective review of Divergent and Insurgent. I really enjoyed listening/reading to these books. They remind me of hunger games, with the exception of not being that intense. The story and plot is interesting and some of the twists (one in particular) I didn't expect. I like the fact that the love story though prominent doesn't take over the story, it helps the plot move forward without making you want to gag! I am not sure if I will ever re-read these again, however they are an entertaining read!"
