NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE—The #1 New York Times bestselling worldwide sensation with more than 18 million copies sold, hailed by The New York Times Book Review as “a painfully beautiful first novel that is at once a murder mystery, a coming-of-age narrative and a celebration of nature.”New York Times Readers Pick: 100 Best Books of the 21st Century For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life—until the unthinkable happens.Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

"9/10 🌟 Great story with an unexpected ending! The plot and context itself is amazing! Some scenes were a little difficult for me to connect with and use imagery but it was still very enjoyable! It’s been 2 months since I’ve read this book and as time goes by, I become more and more obsessed with this story!"

"About a third in, I wasn't very into this book and thought it was moving pretty slowly. I got more and more invested later into the book, and it was worth the wait. I enjoyed the ending twist, but I suspected part of it. "

"So I started this a few nights ago and reading a little every night… I feel so much more invested in the murder mystery than Kya’s character development! Not that the attention to detail is bad, it’s just a bit harder to get through. I’m hoping it’ll tie in eventually and smooth itself out. "

"Man reading this after knowing that it's based off of her real life murder she did, and she's getting away with it possibly that makes everything a lot more messed up. I wonder if people who read this and like this still like this knowing that it's about her killing somebody and then hiding it. It's actually pretty wild to me, it's not a terrible book but when you know that this might be all scenes from a real life experience it gets a little iffy. Bad author, interesting book."

"Having a heck of a time finishing this book too. A slow read, about half way through. Don't feel like finishing this one either. "
