Being kidnapped by aliens is only the start of Jade's problems. Thankfully, her rescuers, an alien race known as the Clecanians, are willing to protect her, but she has to stay on their planet for one year and respect the rules of their culture-including choosing a husband. Jade refuses at first but decides to play along until she can find a way back to Earth.Theo, a scarred mercenary who prefers a life of solitude, is stunned when Jade selects him as her husband. After years of being passed over, he never imagined he would be chosen and neither did anyone else. Only one explanation makes sense...the curvy enticing female must be a spy, and Theo's determined to break her cover using any means necessary. As Jade and Theo are forced to spend time together, their chemistry becomes undeniable. But neither can afford to bring love into the equation, especially since Jade seems determined to go home. After all, she can't possibly stay here, right?

"I loved everything about this until the very end. It felt rushed and then you know the surprise, without spoiling it, I’m gluten free and buns aren’t my thing. Otherwise it was ok and almost the perfect spicy sci fi romance to escape to. "

"This is supposed to be a fun read but I couldn't get over the beginning and how Jade had to marry a man she picked on looks and test scores. There was even a commune for unwed females but she wasn't allowed there. Also, the scientists on this planet are some of the best in the galaxy. They can heal old wounds, and help a human live for centuries longer, but can't fix the birthing rate. I was aggravated by this in the beginning but apparently there is more explanation as the series unfolds.
Jade's inner monolog made my eyes roll back. I swear I am dnf-ing the next book that says my treacherous body. Jade even complained about spending her rich husband's money lol. I just didn't like the dynamics of the Alien races. It seemed like women were allowed to be callous and use their husbands. Also, I didn't understand why they had to leave their babies too.
There was a lot of over-explaining obvious things and under-explaining world-building facts. Sadly a lot of Alien romances are erotic wish fulfillment. Sometimes it's fun but I'm looking for a well-rounded story and I'm afraid I'll be looking for many years to come. The narrators were okay. Theo's voice kind of sounded like Optimus Prime at times lol.
This was probably already doomed for failure because I enjoy monster-type Aliens with fun quirks. I know there are some in the later books but Theo just has cool tattoos. Also, you can never tell by the covers because majority authors commission a photo of topless human men no matter what the character actually looks like. A most of this was too hokey for me instead of fun. It was also very predictable."
