Think page-turner.”—GlamourIn development as a major motion picture produced by and starring Florence Pugh Molly Gray is not like everyone else. She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by. Since Gran died a few months ago, twenty-five-year-old Molly has been navigating life’s complexities all by herself. No matter—she throws herself with gusto into her work as a hotel maid. Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job. She delights in donning her crisp uniform each morning, stocking her cart with miniature soaps and bottles, and returning guest rooms at the Regency Grand Hotel to a state of perfection. But Molly’s orderly life is upended the day she enters the suite of the infamous and wealthy Charles Black, only to find it in a state of disarray and Mr. Black himself dead in his bed. Before she knows what’s happening, Molly’s unusual demeanor has the police targeting her as their lead suspect. She quickly finds herself caught in a web of deception, one she has no idea how to untangle. Fortunately for Molly, friends she never knew she had unite with her in a search for clues to what really happened to Mr. Black—but will they be able to find the real killer before it’s too late? A Clue-like, locked-room mystery and a heartwarming journey of the spirit, The Maid explores what it means to be the same as everyone else and yet entirely different—and reveals that all mysteries can be solved through connection to the human heart.

"Very easy read but first 40% of the book is full of unnecessary descriptions. I understand it was to build the main protagonist’s characters but just unnecessary to me…she had childish mentality, extremely naive…so the whole book seemed silly to me…but then again maybe I’m just too cynical😉 …and not really a good mystery book because you will get what is going on around 40% in the book…"
"We could all use a Molly the maid as a friend in our life. This was definitely a quirky and interesting read. There were several moments when I had to ask if things going on were real as they seemed obvious to the reader. Then you just get that is the personality that you are dealing with here. Fun and not something you need to pay full attention in to. "
"This book is a must read for so many reasons. Nita Prose does an amazing job bringing a neurodivergent character to life, letting the reader experience how she thinks and how she feels.
Friendship, truth, grief, loneliness, and treating everyone kindly were all themes. You won't read it without learning a lesson or two."
"Molly is the heart of this story. As trouble surrounds her and people behave badly, Molly remains the story’s moral compass, piquing and deserving our compassion. Molly is a character with traits similar to Adrian Monk and Sheldon Cooper, unsure about social convention and willing to trust those who do not deserve her. I listened to the book on audio, and the narrator, actress Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under, My Fair Lady), was outstanding, differentiating all the characters with inflection and pitch. She saved the best for Molly, who tugged our heart strings from the first moment. A movie is coming, with Florence Pugh as Molly"
"A solid story!! I loved the writing…nothing was too slow or too fast…no haste endings…the answers were given…it felt like those comfort stories you hear before sleeping. But, what made this one particularly special is the characterization of Molly Gray. From her thoughts to her words and actions…everything was well mapped and planned. It was like the author understood this character inside and out. I appreciate it. If I’m not wrong, Molly is autistic…and I have never learned anything about autism. I do have a classmate who is autistic, but I never really understood the way he speaks and learns. But now I have a better understanding, and I’m so very grateful for it. 😊"
