"This is interesting take on the first contact story. Cool ideas and great character voices (the one-chapter animal characters were particular standouts), but I found the story a little unfocused and disjointed, especially around the midpoint when the gods showed up."

"Okorafor playfully demonstrates a place being forced to change their ways environmentally. With this “petrofiction,” Lagos’ use of oil resources drive the plot to where the book begins. It is when a shapeshifting alien crosses the passes of three unlikely strangers that everyone’s worlds are turned upside down. "
