"This one reads more like a detective novel than the first (IMO)-still more than enough snark and mystical baddies though! I love the way Butcher writes and develops character relationships, plenty of content without taking away from the storyline."

"I struggled through this. I still do not feel a connection to main character Harry Dresden. He comes off as egotistical and chauvinistic. Apparently the series gets better but I honestly don’t know when I’ll get around to the next book as this one did not motivate me enough to do so. Despite the narrators voice being a good choice for this character, I felt the audio quality was terrible and made it difficult to listen to. "

"This book gives love to a underrated creature of the night. Giving multiple unique takes on the Lycanthrope. And a scene that was truly horrifying in it's brutal detail. While this book is certainly more unsettling than it's predecessor the plot has suffered. Since the variety of antagonists makes the conflict much more convoluted. "I honestly don't know if I am going to continue reading the Dresden files. I love the premise so much, and I love our sidekick. The world building has everything I adore, everything supernatural, mixed with investigative work, it really is my absolute jam. It's a real pity. <p> I just feel like Jim spent so much time focusing on these intricate aspects that he forgot to add something more for me to care about? I found myself wanting to skip repetitive and long-winded monologues from our main character, and asked myself pretty often: Why should I care? <p> Remember kids, you can have all the world building in the world and a very imaginative story, but if your characters are one dimensional and you don't make the reader care deeply about them, about their hopes, dreams, aspirations and even add a tiny bit of romance, then there's no point. <p> Maybe in the future I will pick up book three as an audiobook, while I am working on a puzzle or something, just for background noise."
