"I have read this book twice, and for reasons that I wish I could articulate, I found it to be a slog both times. I'm not entirely sure why.....I think it may be perhaps a little too detailed for me, with a lot of detail that seems extraneous. The prose is well written and Atkinson keeps the tone light and writes in more of a story sense and less like he's writing an exhaustive history book. Yet it just doesn't work for me, and I have tried to put my finger on it and really can't."
