A trans boy enters a throw-down battle for the title of Homecoming King with the boy he dumped last summer in ZR Ellor's contemporary YA debut.Jeremy Harkiss, cheer captain and student body president, won’t let coming out as a transgender boy ruin his senior year. Instead of bowing to the bigots and outdate school administration, Jeremy decides to make some noise—and how better than by challenging his all-star ex-boyfriend, Lukas for the title of Homecoming King? Lukas Rivers, football star and head of the Homecoming Committee, is just trying to find order in his life after his older brother’s funeral and the loss of his long-term girlfriend—who turned out to be a boy. But when Jeremy threatens to break his heart and steal his crown, Lukas kick starts a plot to sabotage Jeremy’s campaign. When both boys take their rivalry too far, the dance is on the verge of being canceled. To save Homecoming, they’ll have to face the hurt they’re both hiding—and the lingering butterflies they can’t deny.

"pretty good. not very engaging though, took me a very long time to get through this one. i did end up liking it but wasn’t my favorite ending. good rep I think Jeremy’s struggles felt a lot more realistic than many other trans characters I’ve read . ⭐️3/5⭐️ (finished 4/22/22)"

"it’s pretty good, but i think there is a lot of conflict that could have been easily avoided. also want to see more of the couple together "

"disappointing, was excited for a transgender main character but all of the characters were so unlikable, expected a fun story as well but it was really gloomy"

"I liked the approach it took with Jeremy being incredibly focused on his grandness and how you see his development through the book, although he was a bit too self centered for me I really liked Lukas. I like the rep and his need to fix everything. Over all a great book, might start slow and be heavy on imagery but I really liked it."

"As trans man this book has definitely hit me in my heart there are so many lines and rhetorics that truly highlight my own experience. There are many insane things that happen in this book and it definitely has its fun moments while also speaking on serious topics."
