"I wanted to dislike this book like everyone else but I couldn’t 😂😂 I feel like it was appropriately hyped and it gave me the suspense and heat that I wanted from this book! It was nowhere near an adult hunger games but definitely a maybe more mature divergent? Either way I loved it and I can’t wait for the second"
"Enjoyed this book, although the twist was rather obvious. Probably one reason I liked it was that I really enjoy a well done academy training setting."

"I’m definitely going to get death threats on here for this (see review I made about Fourth Wing)….but this wasn’t good. It was definitely entertaining, if you want a quick summer read that’s also 500 pages long, and this might be what you’re looking for. The problems are that the main character is just a pick-me stereotype that does really stupid things, but then acts like she is the smartest person in the room. “I’m going to sleep with these soldiers, even though they’re carrying out a mass genocide of people like me, because *hair flip*a girl has NEEDS!” “I’m going to my uncle’s execution even though it will put everyone in a precarious position and try to force everyone to shoot themselves in the head…even though throughout the rest of the book I’m going to act morally superior to everyone in military training.” And this is the entire book….like it’s one of those times that I agree with the people bullying her, she acts arrogant and morally superior, but then does stupid things that make her life more difficult, like removing scarring that removed a birthmark when she’s a child, only to reverse it…because she wants to be authentically herself…only to be surprised when her xenophobic friend sees the birthmark and outs her as someone who has special abilities. Like this person has been telling all along who they were and you just DIDN’T listen! The love interest isn’t really that interesting…he’s just this copy and paste shadow daddy with a sad backstory that has a gruff voice. The world building is a little better than Fourth Wing…in it we have a bit more understanding why the world might be divided the way it is (I mean look at the xenophobia going on in today’s society), but we really don’t see it except for a small Ward and military school. I also didn’t think that the military school was that interesting except for all the spice the school felt like it was copied and pasted from the YA dystopian era…who sadly did it better. "
"4.5 ⭐️ Be still my nostalgic Divergent dystopian loving heart. This is my kind of book. Were there parts that were predictable?…yes. Did the MMC say things that occasionally made me cringe?…also yes, but the overall vibe is a yes from me. I hope we don’t have to wait too long for the next book. "
"Entertaining? Yes. Sexy? Yes. Coherent? Um…I still don’t understand the world I was immersed in for 500 pages. True dystopia should have substance and depth. It should have meaning, emotional resonance, moral dilemma, etc. Maybe the author is waiting to reveal more in the next book; I don’t know. It just feels like this dystopian world was very shallow and only half-realized. It was a backdrop for a sexy good time, but nothing more. This was smutty Divergent with a smattering of Hunger Games and X-Men. Don’t get me wrong: I had fun. But I didn’t feel the story in my bones. I hope this opens the door for more adult dystopian-romance that so many Millennials like myself crave, albeit with better execution."
