"5 ⟡ ݁₊ . Our Infinite Fates - Lauren Steven | ARC Review
I went into this only really knowing the premise on the cover, “They’ve loved each other in a thousand lifetimes, they’ve killed each other in every one.” And that’s all you really need to know.
Arden and Evelyn’s love literally transcends time and appearance. Actual soulmates. They are the definition of to be loved by a poet. Probably the most beautiful prose I’ve ever read, with amazing metaphors and similes.
I’m so happy I got to read this early. Ever since reading The Seven Deaths of the Saint, Addie LaRue, watching Death’s Game and See You in My 19th Life, I’ve been waiting for something that combines all of those elements, and this does it perfectly. I basically wanted to write this book and Lauren did it first. The whole time, front to back, I was like this is awesome. The last act really solidified the 5 star. I seriously believe this could become the next big thing.

"2.5 stars. This was a huge letdown. Beautiful cover with stunning illustrations, but boring as heck. I agree with another reviewer saying everything was “told” in this book but not felt. I was told they were soulmates and madly in love, but didn’t feel it. The plot was very repetitive and boring. The flashbacks I could care less for and skimmed over and also why does she keep changing genders every time? Not necessary IMO. The ending was 1. Dark and didn’t like the devilish turn it took 2. Underwhelming … It started out lyrical and poetic and I had hopes it would be oh so romantic, but fell flat for me."

"I have mixed feelings about this book. In many ways, it was beautifully ethereal . But it's almost ending strained the concept. I wanted to love it, but didn't. "

"<b>My heart is a haunted house surrounded by a moat of my own digging, kept empty of warmth so I won't miss it come winter.</b><br/><br/>Imagine meeting the love of your life for over a thousand years. Both reincarnated, your souls are tethered together infinitely. Sounds romantic until you find out that you will not live past the first 24 hours of your 18th birthday, and the reason for your death is the one person who loves you the most, is the one who takes your life every time.<br/><br/>I won't lie, I almost DNF this book. The story bounces back through the many lives of a couple who relive their lives over and over until they are barely 18, while jumping to the present day in 2022. It was repetitive, but it wasn't.<br/><br/>The FMC Evelyn, in every life, asks the MMC Arden why and tries to change his mind. Once she thought she almost did it, but something always stops him, and he still kills her. He says he HAS to, but won't tell her why. Where he can remember every life in detail, she forgets some of them and will only get bits and pieces of their past lives, but cannot remember her first few lives. Sometimes they are both men, sometimes both women, or she a woman and her killer a man, now in the present day. In a few lives, she took the fate into her own hands, but it still ended with them both dying and reincarnation all over again. In every life, they are drawn together, they love each other, but their fate is always that she dies by his hand, and then he dies as well, until they are reborn again.<br/><br/><b> “Like the sway of the sea and the tug of the tides, love is a moving, eternal thing. Let us not be afraid of the wax and the wane, the rise and the fall, the eternal undertow. Each time our souls meet, let us submerge our bodies in the bright blue cold, and let the waves make us anew.”</b> A tear slid down the apple of her cheek. <b>“I love you, and I have loved you, and I will love you.”</b><br/>"

"Ever since I’ve read and loved Steven’s “The Society for Soulless Girls” and “Every Exquisite Thing”, I decided to try out her latest novel, and it was very different, but I enjoyed it overall. It’s a nice balance of a deep romance, sadness, and a tiny bit of a thriller. I was surprised by how well this book was dedicated to showing off every single timeline and romance that Arden and Evelyn had, and those historical set chapters were both deeply romantic and also heartbreaking at the same time (because after maybe 2 or 3 of them you realize how every individual one is going to end.) Plus, there was a good amount of passion between Evelyn and Arden. But I wasn’t a real fan of the ending. It did the whole “let’s make a twist no reader will be able to guess by making it so ridiculous and different” approach, which is actually quite annoying. And the logic behind why this twist happened was really stupid, especially from Evelyn. But overall, this was a good book, I definitely think this is my least favorite of Steven’s novels, but anyone who wants a somewhat tragic star-crossed lovers story, a romance with supernatural elements, or simply wants to read the same romance play out in different universes and settings may want to give this a try.
