"I’m finding it hard to believe that this is a book meant for children there is an awful lot of murder for this to be a bedtime book… This is a swashbuckling adventure tale that is mostly centered on a young boy, Jim, who repeatedly saves the day. I can’t really understand why Jim’s mother let him go on an adventure with a bunch of grown adults, to chase after an X on a map found in a locked trunk of a dead man’s room, after being hunted by pirates in their own home…but I guess that’s just how things were back in the day... Overall, the book is fun and fast paced and works hard at instilling morals and courage into the mind of the impressionable youths reading it. I make jokes above because when you say it all out loud this book is preposterous but it’s a classic for a reason. While reading this you will find yourself lost in the pages and maybe even recapture a little bit of that childlike wonder."

"Read this with my mom back in 2011 and reread it now with Amanda since we watched Black Sails which is supposed to be a prequel to Treasure Island. Both times I found the book rather tedious to get through. I have interest in pirates and enjoy adventure movies, yet find this book too slow and not always sure what's happening. I tried the audiobook this time as well; Alfred Molina was the narrator and was really good, but I found myself zoning out which is always my problem with audiobooks."
