WINNER OF THE JAMES HERBERT AWARD FOR HORROR WRITING “The Troop scared the hell out of me, and I couldn’t put it down. This is old-school horror at its best.” —Stephen KingOnce every year, Scoutmaster Tim Riggs leads a troop of boys into the Canadian wilderness for a weekend camping trip—a tradition as comforting and reliable as a good ghost story around a roaring bonfire. But when an unexpected intruder stumbles upon their campsite—shockingly thin, disturbingly pale, and voraciously hungry—Tim and the boys are exposed to something far more frightening than any tale of terror. The human carrier of a bioengineered nightmare. A horror that spreads faster than fear. A harrowing struggle for survival with no escape from the elements, the infected…or one another. Part Lord of the Flies, part 28 Days Later—and all-consuming—this tightly written, edge-of-your-seat thriller takes you deep into the heart of darkness, where fear feeds on sanity…and terror hungers for more.

"Now I wouldn’t say this is one of my favorites but I was dedicated and interested to finish it. What I likes most about this book is you think your going to read about maybe all these kids being changed by a predator ans coming together to get off the island alive but things take a quick turn of how wrong I was! Not for the faint of heart if you don’t like animals being torched and creepy crawlers!!!"
"A book that felt specifically tailored to one of my main personal fears. To put it into perspective, how I feel about the main “antagonist” is how some people are afraid of clowns or spiders. The author has such a unique way of creating a viscerally disturbing image. It felt oddly familiar until I realized he’s the same guy that wrote “The handyman method” that I also enjoyed. To be honest I have a feeling I’ll never forget reading this book for quite a while to come just because of the way I felt while reading. "
"Extremely disturbing. The horror stays with you. It’s going to be a very long time before I can see anything wriggle and not completely panic. "

"WOW. This was definitely one of the most ****** up books I've ever read, if not the most. I am giving it 4⭐ instead of 5 because there were quite a few animal scenes I had to skip over. Besides that, it was a pretty good horror novel (so be aware if you're planning to read this). It was nasty, but a good read. I only recommend this book if you already read/enjoy horror since it's on the dark/gory side."
