Stephen King
Stephen King returns to the character and territory of one of his most popular novels ever,The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance and the very special twelve-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals. On highways across America, a tribe of people called the True Knot travel in search of sustenance. They look harmless—mostly old, lots of polyester, and married to their RVs. But as Dan Torrance knows, and spunky twelve-year-old Abra Stone learns, the True Knot are quasi-immortal, living off the steam that children with the shining produce when they are slowly tortured to death.Haunted by the inhabitants of the Overlook Hotel, where he spent one horrific childhood year, Dan has been drifting for decades, desperate to shed his father's legacy of despair, alcoholism, and violence. Finally, he settles in a New Hampshire town, an AA community that sustains him, and a job at a nursing home where his remnant shining power provides the crucial final comfort to the dying. Aided by a prescient cat, he becomes “Doctor Sleep.”Then Dan meets the evanescent Abra Stone, and it is her spectacular gift, the brightest shining ever seen, that reignites Dan's own demons and summons him to a battle for Abra's soul and survival. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of devoted readers of The Shining and satisfy anyone new to this icon in the King canon.

"Years in the making, this the sequel to The Shining! Like most of the King books, you can’t stop reading this....Little Danny Torrance is all grown up and not without his private PTSD. There is a good sense of closure!"

"How typical for Stephen King is to write about alcoholics? But he is really good at it, and the book is also good. 8/10. Recommend"

"Not many authors can write a sequel to a book almost 30 years after they wrote the original and pull it off. Stephen King did just that, and for me personally, wrote a book that was better then The Shining. It took me a bit to get into it, the first 200 pages were meaty and a little bit “let’s get on with it.” But after that I was hooked, the rest of the book was a page turner with some of the best characters I’ve ever read and a fantastically written storyline. Doctor Sleep has some of the best villains ever written, period. I loved all the ties into The Shining and how everything wraps up so beautifully. It was a satisfying and thrilling read. I think King done good. 4 out of 5 stars. "

"Wow. After reading The Shining, I wasn’t sure where he would go with a sequel- but boy was I happy with it!! Each book is incredibly different, yet Danny (Dan)’s character is exactly how I pictured him all grown up. Phenomenal book filled with horror, excitement, death, and despair. Can’t wait to watch the movie to compare the two!"

"This book was #fantastic but the movie was absolutely terrible. They didn’t give enough of the story line in the book so the movie made no sense. I was super disappointed in the movie. #thebookwasbetter #themoviesucked "

"Very good sequel to the shining, however if you were expecting the shining it’s totally different. From soul-eating, child killing cult members, to the main character literally spitting out someone’s “essence”. Shits crazy, I do recommend"

"Wrapped up the Shining better than I had ever imagined. This book’s ending, truly something, something of which made me feel as if this was my own family. My own blood. "
