"Trigger warning: gaslighting, emotional abuse.<br/>The Hitchcock comparisons are apt. An irredeemable, sociopathic villain is in these pages. Madness. Isolation. Cunning. Cruel kismet.<br/><br/> But the shift in perspectives on the same event, chapter by chapter, become tiresome. Toward the end, the reader has pieced it all together and the protagonists are late to figure it out. There are loose ends and unbelieveablity. The travelogue bits are repetitive and flat. Above passable, but barely."

"I have very mixed feelings about this book. Maybe my expectations were too high due to all of the hype about this book. It had HUGE plot holes and there were many plot points that did not make sense because they were never explained. On the other hand, Tangier was described so well, it was like a character in its own right and overall it was an entertaining book. So, I’ll settle on 3 stars. This might be one of those books where the movie will actually be better."
