Kent Haruf
NATIONAL BESTSELLER • A spare yet eloquent, bittersweet yet inspiring story of a man and a woman who, in advanced age, come together to wrestle with the events of their lives and their hopes for the imminent future. In the familiar setting of Holt, Colorado, home to all of Kent Haruf's inimitable fiction, Addie Moore pays an unexpected visit to a neighbor, Louis Waters. Her husband died years ago, as did his wife, and in such a small town they naturally have known of each other for decades; in fact, Addie was quite fond of Louis's wife. His daughter lives hours away, her son even farther, and Addie and Louis have long been living alone in empty houses, the nights so terribly lonely, especially with no one to talk with. But maybe that could change? As Addie and Louis come to know each other better--their pleasures and their difficulties--a beautiful story of second chances unfolds, making Our Souls at Night the perfect final installment to this beloved writer's enduring contribution to American literature.

"Fast and easy read. Got this book after I saw the movie. Now that I've finished, I want to watch the movie again eventhough I've watched it 2 or 3 times already. Kinda bummed about the ending but I want to compare them both as I watch the movie but seems like the movie follows the book. Would I recommend? I might say, watch the movie because that's the book 😛 jane fonda and Robert redford."

"Boring but weirdly comforting. "

"What a lovely little book. I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it at first, but once I got to know the characters (and the writing style) I was swept away. Without a doubt, a sign of a good writer is how quickly they can make you believe in a story, and Kent Haruf was one of the best. I read this in one fell swoop, and I was so emotionally invested by the end that I had tears in my eyes. All that in a 180 page book. Fantastic writing and well worth a read."

"This book destroyed me. The ending broke my heart, and it feels so unfinished, because it is. Beautiful, but so devastating. 😭💔"

"Kent Haruf is a talented author. This wasn’t my favorite book of his, but everything he writes feels true and honest. His characters are charming and quirky. I loved his novel Plainsong."

"i liked the short chapter style, the unorthodoxy of the book, and the tenderness present throughout"

"Sweet little story about romance in later life, but the dialogue and the conflict fell flat for me."

"This is the first book I've read by him, but it was so lovely. It's a simple story that doesn't sound like it would be all that engrossing, but it's so touching and real. "
