Rocket racing can be deadly, but working in food service is worse. May's humdrum life is flung into hyperdrive when she's abducted, but not all aliens are out to probe her. She's inadvertently rescued by Xan, an "I Love Lucy" obsessed alien with the orangest rocket ship in the universe. But you still have to eat in space, and rocket racing is a quick, if life-threatening, way to make a living. Finally, May has a career she loves and a friend to share her winnings with. Until a Chaos god possessing Xan's ex-lover decides it's high time this whole "existence of reality" business was over and done with. The Audacity is the only ship fast enough to stop her, but May's no hero, and she doesn't particularly care for reality, anyway. Is literally (yes, literally) everything doomed?Witty, hilarious, and current, The Audacity is Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for the next generation. What the people are saying... "A wild ride! I laughed, I gasped, and my face got all wet in the end. A perfect edition for the Audacity series!""Queer, technicolor, sci-fi joy swaddled within the confines of a book...alien drag shows, interstellar romp with healthy and hilarious relationships.""Like The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but with hopeful, loving optimism. And, in no slight to Adams, I think these days, we could use much more of the latter than the former."For fans of...Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Good Omens, Futurama, or Red Dwarf. Author BioCarmen Loup is a non-binary humorologist, illustrator of Tarot in Space, and creator of The Audacity sci-fi novel and comic book series. "⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
One of my favorite book series of all time that was actually recommended to me on Likewise. The plot is simple, but everything else is entertaining as heck! The dialogue is witty, the narration is insanely funny at times (gotta love narrators with personality), and the characters are charming and have such great chemistry with eachother. Xan quickly became one of my top five favorite literary characters, and this first book was a great establishment of his relationship with May. I also adore the world, or, rather, galaxybuilding as the vibes are very retro sci-fi (and reminiscient of MST3K for any fellow Msties out there). Do yourself a favor and read this book!
After reading book 1, I will now forever associate I Love Lucy with this series.
