"Though a retelling of one of Edgar Allan Poe's most famous stories, The Fall of the House of Usher, this short novel works as its own piece quite well. The narrator is certainly given significantly more depth than Poe’s work. The way Kingfisher builds the atmosphere throughout is effective in its sense of uneasiness and occasional dread. There are ideas that are as interesting as they are chock-full of terrifying potential. It's worth a read for the mood, premise, and the few truly effective moments that will have your skin crawling."

Kingfisher 5/5 ✨ This is a retelling of Edgar Allen Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher.I have never read that story of Poe's and it seems most people like his version, I guess at some point I must read the original but as of now I think this book was amazing! This is great spooky vibes and early on you kinda understand what's going on but you don't have all the facts and as the story progresses you get more and more of this spooky, dark tarn and I loved this! The house is a great haunting setting, the people are morose and the whole thing was so much fun! "
