Daniel Keyes
Winner of both the Hugo and Nebula Awards, the powerful, classic story about a man who receives an operation that turns him into a genius...and introduces him to heartache. Charlie Gordon is about to embark upon an unprecedented journey. Born with an unusually low IQ, he has been chosen as the perfect subject for an experimental surgery that researchers hope will increase his intelligence-a procedure that has already been highly successful when tested on a lab mouse named Algernon. As the treatment takes effect, Charlie's intelligence expands until it surpasses that of the doctors who engineered his metamorphosis. The experiment appears to be a scientific breakthrough of paramount importance, until Algernon suddenly deteriorates. Will the same happen to Charlie?

"Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes
5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I don't know how to review this, it's overwhelming and difficult to not give too much away and spoil it for others.
I loved the journal-like writing and I really grasped this character, everything he goes through, discovers about himself, his past and those people around him.
I felt amazed, excited, hesitant, appalled, embarrassed, and sad. All the range of emotions from such a short book.
I want more but at the same time I am happy I get to keep the heartbreak to a minimum.
I'm glad I didn't read this for school, I don't think I would've appreciated this as an adolescent with very little real life experience. "

"A really great book. Even knowing how the book would end, I dreaded it. It broke my heart to see how kind everyone was at the bakery, and Alice's reaction to him showing up in class. What a beautiful journey it took me on. On what humanity is. September 25"

"I’m almost at a loss for words. Flowers for Algernon is beautiful yet heartbreaking. Bold yet some themes are out of my reach. I found myself mourning along with the main character all the while watching in awe at the literary masterpiece Daniel Keyes had created."
