Neil Gaiman
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author and “one of the modern masters of fantasy writing,” (Huffington Post) a dazzling, witty telling of the Norse myths. "A lively, funny, and very human rendition of Thor the thunder god, his father Odin, and the dark-hearted trickster Loki (plus countless other gods and monsters)." — Petra Mayer, NPR Neil Gaiman, long inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction, presents a bravura rendition of the Norse gods and their world from their origin though their upheaval in Ragnarok. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman stays true to the myths in envisioning the major Norse pantheon: Odin, the highest of the high, wise, daring, and cunning; Thor, Odin’s son, incredibly strong yet not the wisest of gods; and Loki—son of a giant—blood brother to Odin and a trickster and unsurpassable manipulator. Gaiman fashions these primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds and delves into the exploits of deities, dwarfs, and giants. Through Gaiman’s deft and witty prose, these gods emerge with their fiercely competitive natures, their susceptibility to being duped and to duping others, and their tendency to let passion ignite their actions, making these long-ago myths breathe pungent life again.

"A fun diversion into the old stories and characters of Norse mythology, including Thor and his hammer. "

"Decided to take a break from Greek mythology and spend some time with the Norsemen. These stories are phenomenal. Gaiman takes the building blocks of traditional Norse myths and sprinkles a little bit of his own flair into it. He breathes life into the Norse gods in a way that makes them believable and complex. It's definitely inspiring me to read the Prose Edda next!"

"The writing was well done and the stories were pretty entertaining. There were just a few parts I cringed at. Like how dying by childbirth was considered an unworthy death for Valhalla because it wasn’t a battle,,,I would disagree. I think the author just went with more of a traditional retelling. I don’t think I enjoy those very much."

"3.75/5
Overall its entertaining, some stories were a little boring.
5/5 for "The Children of Loki" and if you liked that part as much as I did, I highly recommend "The Witches Heart" by Genevieve Gornichec"

"This was such a fun read! I was hesitant to pick it up, but I really loved it. I hope Gaiman releases more stories like this. It was a quick and enjoyable book."

"A charming book that reads like a myth, with all the classic Gaiman humour. The way in which Gaiman spun together different myths and made them more cohesive was masterful, and does a great service to the original tales. "

"DNF. 280 pages, I made it to 158. It's written like a children's book and I just could not do it."
