"More space opera than fantasy, but it is amazing! "

"I always approach new-for-me scifi series with fairly low expectations and a side of resignation because the ones that appeal to me are pretty rare. I want character-based action-dramas (in space. Or at least not on Earth) that don't get bogged down with military garble - which are surprisingly hard to find in my experience. Happily, this one did not disappoint! And as a true scifi/fantasy, it hit pretty much all my Happy Reading Place buttons.
There are some very twisty politics, and the science is... a stretch to say the least. I also know Kira has a very long way to go before she gets to where she is supposed to be, and that the road to get there will be full of... a lot. But none the less, I look forward to watching her come into her own along the way"

"I couldn’t put this book down. It hooked me with the stubbornly independent main character who’s forced to follow a destiny not of her own choosing. How she navigates the drastic turn of events is a wide ride that kept me guessing through all four books of the Firebird Chronicles. Buckle up!"

"I'm going to start this review by telling you that T.A. White is one of my top ten favorite authors. I've read and enjoyed all of her work to date. Which you see is quite obvious when I tell you that I just finished reading/listening to this series for the third time in only 47 days. LOL! I'm all about the re-read when I find a story I like and as you can tell I think this series is fantastic.

In this opening installation of the Firebird Chronicles T.A. White introduces us to fantastic and futuristic alien war torn worlds and the races, as well as the humans, who populate them.

Meet Kira Forrest the heroine of these stories. Kira is a survivor of a horrific upbringing and a terrible war instigated by a race called the Tsavitee that devastated worlds and the three other races prominent in these stories. (Those being, Humans, Tuann and the Haldeel.) Once she was a savior and hero to many as she fought for the Human Consortium to eradicate the scourge of the Tsavitee. But now that the war is over, (or is it?) and she is no longer respected and admired but reviled. So apart for her best friend a "droid" named Jin she's living a mostly solitary life as a space scavenger, as well as carrying out some mysterious and important missions of her own. Because unlike the rest of galaxies she knows the war is far from over.

Kira is a great character with a lot of depth (just like the rest of the cast of characters, they aren't just surface). She's brave and reckless, with a dab hand at sarcasm, she's kind but ruthless and she'll stop at nothing, even if it means her death or being hated by her closest friends in order to protect the innocent and the people who matter to her. She's also lonely but so scarred by loss she's afraid to let anyone too close.

Enter Graydon, The Emperor's Face (as well as the hero of this series) and the rest of the Tuann. The Tuann are all about ties and once they've got their hooks in you they're more than reluctant the let you go. There is of course more to it than that, but that's for you to find out when you read this fantastic tale."
