I don't know how anyone could ever predict that ending, the book could have went another 30 chapters and I still wouldn't have got that one!!! This is one of the very few books that have left me completely stumped! I am very quickly falling in love with the Jessica Daniel series! I read this book in one sitting, probably around 6-7 hours, I was in a HUGE hurry! I accidentally started reading the 4th one first thinking it was the third one and the first chapter completely blew me away, i was so captivated I honestly thought about skipping this one just to be able to keep reading the 4th one but i thought no that wouldn't be fair to Jessica or Kerry! So i will admit i rushed through this one but i still gave it all the attention it deserved and read every bit of it, the ending was a little confusing for me, which should be expected seeing it was a rather weird predicament Jessica had gotten herself into. I wish she would stop rushing into situations alone like she does!! I know it seems to be a thing with book cops for some reason, but i am really liking this series and want it to continue, if she keeps rushing in one of these times she won't be so lucky! I have to say it was a little reading reading she was hanging out with Hugo.. not sure where that is going but he seems a little too quirky for her, I really am hoping Adam comes back around eventually, I liked them together! Or who knows maybe she'll end up with Dave!! ha! <br/>[Does anyone else that reads this series picture Cole as a REALLY hot old(er) boss!? No just me !? Ha figures! I love the salt and pepper hair look and I like to think of Cole that way!]"

"Actual rating: 3.5 stars<br/><br/>I felt this was a solid 3 star read for me for the first 3/4, but then it got really creepy and haunting at the end that pushes it up to 4 stars. Any time he went into that nursery, I was like nope. Go back to bed, hide under the blankets. I liked in general that he made realistic choices--like he would be curious about things and check them out, but also would be like "it's damn creepy down there, I'm staying up here." He also came to accept it was truly a ghost rather than convincing himself otherwise--he was both a logical protagonist, but came to accept some things just can't be explained.<br/><br/>Also to ease other animal lovers: there is a dog in the story and she survives."

"If you can get your hands on the Audible Audio version of this narrated by Paapa Essiedu, please do! It doesn't say so but its narrated with sound effects and music and it's very well done. I felt comfort only in knowing that he survives the experience but I knew nothing of what happened to him, since it starts out with him telling a story he's never told anyone. <br/><br/>Of all the recommends from "Monster, She Wrote" Susan Hill does the best job of recapturing the Gothic Horror style of writing that is spooky, intense and takes you on an emotional ride. <br/><br/>Really good, tragic ghost story.<br/>"
