Margaret Mitchell
Nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by PBS’s The Great American Read. Margaret Mitchell's epic novel of love and war won the Pulitzer Prize and went on to give rise to two authorized sequels and one of the most popular and celebrated movies of all time. Many novels have been written about the Civil War and its aftermath. None take us into the burning fields and cities of the American South as Gone With the Wind does, creating haunting scenes and thrilling portraits of characters so vivid that we remember their words and feel their fear and hunger for the rest of our lives. In the two main characters, the white-shouldered, irresistible Scarlett and the flashy, contemptuous Rhett, Margaret Mitchell not only conveyed a timeless story of survival under the harshest of circumstances, she also created two of the most famous lovers in the English-speaking world since Romeo and Juliet.

"The book is so much more. If you've only seen the movie please read the book. The characters are rounded out and even more full of life. Highly recommended. "

"The writing is very immersive and for a long book it reads fast. The idealized portrayal of pre and post slavery is cringe worthy especially with 21st century eyes and hearts. Despite this it deserves to be read."

"Exposes so much of what evil can look like. An in depth view of of first; cluelessness and selfishness, and then desperation, stubbornness, the love of money and power complexes. The book slowly exposes the heartbreaking consequences of being self absorbed, how it can stop us from living whole heartedly with out genuine connection until it's too late. "

"This is not my usual kind of book to read or listen to, but I really enjoyed listening to this. I loved seeing the journey through a period of grace and gentility that abruptly ends when the ugly glorious cause breaks out.

This has so much more to offer than the movie, which I love. There is so much more to Scarlett, Melanie, and Rhett. There is a whole world they couldn’t fit into the movie.

My favorite part wasn’t even the romance that Scarlett doesn’t realize is going on, it’s the friendship she doesn’t realize she has with Melanie.

It might be forty hours long, but it seemed way to short when I heard The End."
