"I love the concept for this series, don’t get me wrong. <br/>Badass necromancer/hunter chick is a theme I’m all about, but I am absolutely not about the following:<br/><br/>1) The Anita Show<br/><br/>With few exceptions, any time there’s drama, the entire setting is silent and everyone just watches Today’s Episode of the Anita Show. She’s in the right, or there’s sex involved. Usually both. <br/><br/>Everyone thinks she’s amazing and all-powerful and they’re scared of her/hot for her. Or they’re The Opposition™️.<br/><br/>2) Overused character tropes <br/><br/>There’s always a sexist/biased character acting obviously irrational about her sex life. Usually, it’s a cop/coworker of some sort, and everyone backs Anita up or “knows she can handle it on her own.”<br/><br/>3) The constant relationship drama <br/><br/>Richard. Asher. The angst. My ******* God. I don’t give a damn who she fucks or when or why. I just want her to raise the dead and hunt things. <br/><br/>4) The ****** editing<br/><br/>Everyone else has mentioned it. The author repeats herself constantly, and the only reason it doesn’t bother me more is that I listen to the audiobooks at double speed, and I am forced to process the story too fast to sit and stew over repetition or failure to use a thesaurus. <br/><br/>I loved the first ten books or so. The concept is excellent. I don’t care that she’s a succubus, and that there are sex scenes. Get laid, do whatever. Romance and sex are fine.<br/><br/>What’s driving me crazy is how much it is all about Anita all the time, and the ratio of story to sex. Instead of the books focusing on the storyline and character growth, it just focuses on her sex life. Constantly. She solves the unsolvable basically on her own instead of working with her people or learning something new outside of her range of abilities. <br/><br/>It’s very tiring, and I think the only reason I’m still hanging on is because I’m almost done, and then I can call it quits."
