The official playscript of the original West End production of HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD.It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places. The playscript for HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD was originally released as a 'special rehearsal edition' alongside the opening of Jack Thorne's play in London's West End in summer 2016. Based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne, the play opened to rapturous reviews from theatregoers and critics alike, while the official playscript became an immediate global bestseller. This revised paperback edition updates the 'special rehearsal edition' with the conclusive and final dialogue from the play, which has subtly changed since its rehearsals, as well as a conversation piece between director John Tiffany and writer Jack Thorne, who share stories and insights about reading playscripts. This edition also includes useful background information including the Potter family tree and a timeline of events from the Wizarding World prior to the beginning of HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD.

"This felt like coming home but also didn’t feel like it was written by JKR?? Maybe I’ve read too many HP fanfictions but this is what it felt like to me LOL! I’ve put this off too long but I was glad to spend some time with these characters after so many years"

"On one side I’m like Ew because of how badly written older Harry is, but at the same time I’m like yay because we get much more malfoy backstory and see a whole new side of Draco we didn’t really see in the books (we kind of saw it in deathly hallows but ya know, it’s more than that) J.K Rowling also didn’t paint all the Slytherins as bad!! So yay for that too. As a matter of fact, the whole book is pretty much just proving the all Slytherins are bad rumour wrong which I really appreciate because there is so much more depth to the house than just “they’re all bad” Honestly I really didn’t like how Harry was such a bad father to Albus, but overall it makes sense as to why he is like that (after all he never had a dad). Scorpius was just such a cutie the whole book and I love him SO MUCH for that. Albus was also pretty slay. 3/5 ⭐️"

"This I feel would have been better to be watched than read. I dont believe this is the next Harry Potter book in the series but more of what it actually is a play. There are too many plot holes the traveling in time aspect is to much. If you were to travel in time and make one small ripple you could easily make it as though you never existed so that main part of the book threw me off. Dont get me wrong I bet the play is magnificent and to read about the characters that I thought were long gone was thrilling. But when I really thought about everything that was going on it made no sense. I didnt feel like the characters I use to read about would actually do that or be this way. You have to remember this isnt really an extension of J.K.'s writing. It feels more like a side bar to me an alternate reality if you will. I would love to see the play one day. But I did not feel these were the characters I grew to love. If you dont care for spoilers watch MovieFlame on YouTube he goes into great detail about how this is not and extension of the harry potter books."

"It's basically bad fan fiction. This book couldn't have been worse and I'm SO mad they're making it a friggin' movie now. "

"I feel like I can't review this without ruining anything...just know that I liked it overall, but I wish some stuff would have been different. It made me happy to be dropped back into this world."

"Interesting premise; I loved the characters of Albus and Scorpio and the idea of trying to live up to a parents legacy, and of going back in time to fix one's mistakes. As a whole though, the book didn't really come together for me, possibly because of its stagey origins."
