Chuck Palahniuk
Victor Mancini, a medical-school dropout, is an antihero for our deranged times. Needing to pay elder care for his mother, Victor has devised an ingenious scam: he pretends to choke on pieces of food while dining in upscale restaurants. He then allows himself to be “saved” by fellow patrons who, feeling responsible for Victor’s life, go on to send checks to support him. When he’s not pulling this stunt, Victor cruises sexual addiction recovery workshops for action, visits his addled mom, and spends his days working at a colonial theme park. His creator, Chuck Palahniuk, is the visionary we need and the satirist we deserve.

"This was my first Chuck Palahniuk book, and I have no words to describe what I just read. I don't think I will enthusiastically love his novels but I am curious as to how twisted Palahniuk's mind can get."

"My favorite one is probably Haunted, but if you have a weak stomach some parts might be hard to get through it is an amazing read though. Same author. All his books are great. ☺️"

"How did I not read this book eariler. Palahniuk writes in detail that both horrify and excite you. I finished the book in one sitting, no matter how often I tried to put it down it called to me until I was finished."

"I might have enjoyed reading this book's reviews more than the book itself. It's kind of funny how they're all over the map. Controlled chaos, minus the control, seems to be the name of Chuck Palahniuk's game. Anyone who thinks that Choke isn't preachy couldn't have read the same book I did. It's the same story with different words and different people, and it's getting old."
