An Instant #1 New York Times Bestseller! An Instant #1 Indie Bestseller! Return to the opulent world of Elfhame, filled with intrigue, betrayal, and dangerous desires, with this first book of a captivating new duology from the #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black. A runaway queen. A reluctant prince. And a quest that may destroy them both. Eight years have passed since the Battle of the Serpent. But in the icy north, Lady Nore of the Court of Teeth has reclaimed the Ice Needle Citadel. There, she is using an ancient relic to create monsters of stick and snow who will do her bidding and exact her revenge. Suren, child queen of the Court of Teeth, and the one person with power over her mother, fled to the human world. There, she lives feral in the woods. Lonely, and still haunted by the merciless torments she endured in the Court of Teeth, she bides her time by releasing mortals from foolish bargains. She believes herself forgotten until the storm hag, Bogdana chases her through the night streets. Suren is saved by none other than Prince Oak, heir to Elfhame, to whom she was once promised in marriage and who she has resented for years. Now seventeen, Oak is charming, beautiful, and manipulative. He's on a mission that will lead him into the north, and he wants Suren's help. But if she agrees, it will mean guarding her heart against the boy she once knew and a prince she cannot trust, as well as confronting all the horrors she thought she left behind.

"I need book 2 immediately please! Now this isn't like cardan and jude, but it was still amazing. There was heck of a lot more scheming involved, some seriously bad trust issues, and just great characters. The plot twists just kept hitting me and I love it!! It's been awhile since I read the Folk of Air series, so some of what they talked about kind of confused me but then all the memories came back and I was like "Oh yea that's how it went down!" I can't wait for book to release! I'm super excited!! And now I just might re-read the Folk of the Air series...again."

"Holly Black has again dragged me into Elfhame, and I wouldn't dream of getting out. This was great, Suren is very different from Jude (and let's be honest, that's a great thing. I'll go reread her story if I miss her), and I find her actions to be much harder to understand. I do wish the book was told from Oaks perspective rather than having him as a love interest. I don't know if I'll ever be able to see him as anything but the precious little brother he was introduced to us as... Still, I'm excited for the conclusion of this duology and where Rens journeys will finish!"

"I can’t really say I got into this book hard but the slow burn was pretty good and made my heart feel something for like 3 seconds so that counts for something???"

"Another adventurous book set in Elfhame. The fae can't lie, but they are great at misrepresenting the truth. Once again, you have a hero who the MC can't trust. The ending is unexpected."

"This book was such a disappointment. It wasn’t near as good as cruel prince. And to be honest, Oak’s hooves were far worst than Cardan’s tail. It was starting to get good in the last 15 pages. "

"This book was way better than I thought it was going to be. I put off reading this for the longest time because I was scared holly black was going to make oak a terrible person but he wasn't I'm glad I decided to finally read it. And that ending should be illegal I can't wait to read book two."

"I loved this so much! It perfectly captured the vibes of the Cruel Prince trilogy, while bringing new elements to the table. I really loved Wren, who was giving off major Jude vibes towards the end, and Oak, who was so different from Cardan. I wouldn’t put this book on the same level as the Folk of the Air, but it was still so good. 4.5/5."

"5/5 MISS HOLLY BLACK. This might be my fav book by her. She really redeemed herself with this one after book of night (which was more of a nightmare tbh) I think it’s so much better than cruel prince, not the series over all but the first book. plot is on point, characters, pacing. Loved every bit of it.
would have to update if it’s better than the series once book 2 is out. Considering we will definitely see Jude Cardan in book2 it might just be better.
"With him, I am forever a night-blooming flower, attracted and repelled by the heat of the sun." WRENOAK MY CHILDREN."
