"I really like the concept of Daughters of the Lake. It sounded like it was going to be right up my alley, and I was looking forward to a good gothic ghost story.

However, it has been more about the main character's divorce and the history of a hotel than anything else. There are a ton of unnecessary details, and I started skimming pretty early on since it was pages of information on the main character's family history. I was hoping I could connect more with the story in the past (there are alternating timelines), but this one just isn't working for me. I think it will be good for a historical fiction fan."

"If I was more into fantasy fiction, I would have given the book 4 stars. It was a recommendation from someone. "

"I loved this Gothic thriller mystery! It marked all the boxes for me. Wendy Webb writes truly great Gothic tales. These types of stories were what I read as a teen in the 80’s. Love! "

"I did not like this as much as other the other book I’ve read by this author. The writing style for this one compared to her other is different and I just didn’t like it. The “little did they know” kind of storytelling and the stuff with the ghosts just wasn’t really my thing. I saw the twist coming miles away. The story is pretty slow paced, but that’s her style and the reading itself can go pretty quickly. Overall I enjoyed it but wouldn’t put it on a “must read” list."
