FROM THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF FUNNY STORY!A romance writer who no longer believes in love and a literary writer stuck in a rut engage in a summer-long challenge that may just upend everything they believe about happily ever afters. As featured in The New York Times Book Review ∙ Entertainment Weekly ∙ Oprah Magazine ∙ Betches ∙ Shondaland ∙ Good Morning America ∙ The New York Post ∙ Good Housekeeping ∙ CNN ∙ and more!Augustus Everett is an acclaimed author of literary fiction. January Andrews writes bestselling romance. When she pens a happily ever after, he kills off his entire cast. They’re polar opposites. In fact, the only thing they have in common is that for the next three months, they're living in neighboring beach houses, broke, and bogged down with writer's block.Until, one hazy evening, one thing leads to another and they strike a deal designed to force them out of their creative ruts: Augustus will spend the summer writing something happy, and January will pen the next Great American Novel. She’ll take him on field trips worthy of any rom-com montage, and he’ll take her to interview surviving members of a backwoods death cult (obviously). Everyone will finish a book and no one will fall in love. Really.

"This has to be one of my new favorite romances. Not only was the love story between January and Gus pitch perfect, but the theme of accepting the ugliness of the world and choosing to still find beauty and love and happiness in your today had me in tears. I loved this so much. Really there’s nothing else to say."

"A classic chick lit. Light, enjoyable, and easily consumed. "

"3.5⭐
Definitely not my favorite romance novel ever, but it was still pretty good. It was a bit of a slow start in my opinion but I'm glad I stuck with it because I did end up enjoying it. The writing style was a bit different than I'm used to but enjoyable nonetheless."

"4.5 - This was so funny!

I loved the banter between the two main characters. It had the element of rivals – but with juicy history between them.

I also appreciated that this was only told from one POV. I was totally expecting to switch over to the other main character but it never happened. It was such a pleasant surprise.

The climax of this book also made so much sense. It wasn’t overly dramatic but it wasn’t nothing either. In other books they make the climax so life changing when it really is just another but slightly bigger problem than all the rest.

Honestly, when I was starting this book, I was expecting them to be on the beach more. But I think it worked out quite well."

"Ok rant incoming. I've read Emily Henry books before and usually give em 3 stars cuz like they were okay and usually I'm not the biggest fan of her characters and storytelling. But this book was actually so good. I honestly had no qualms with the characters (which is rare for me in romance books I usually get pretty irritated with them) and also I think the plot was so cute.
My only complaints were that for some reason authors love the miscommunication trope so that was in there but it was resolved rather quickly and also the fact that the ending seemed off. I don't know how tho. Like not that it wasn't resolved but something was missing I don't know.
Either way, definitely one of my top Emily Henry books cuz I usually don't like them but this one was cute I recommend. "
