"Perhaps this is an odd review, but while I can’t say I loved the story, I loved the author’s intention. There is a short statement in the author’s note that made me retrospectively respect what Amy Harmon set out to accomplish, and I think she did that.

As for the story itself, I just didn’t enjoy it the way I thought I would. I’ve always enjoyed reading about the Oregon Trail, despite the hardships and heartbreaks. This was good but some of the research was a little off, and I just didn’t fall in love with the characters. The romance was believable and the family ties were strong, but something just didn’t work for me. I’m still glad I read this and I’ll keep coming back to stories of the emigrants who set out for better lives by braving the unknown!"

"A fantastic book to close out the year with. I will definitely be reading more by this author!

I’ve read books about the Oregon Trail before, but as a 5th generation Oregonian whose ancestors all traveled west at around the same time, this story truly hit home in a different way."
"A beautifully written book. The characters are complex, likable, and bring the story to life. The tonal shift in the last quarter of the book is shocking at first, but this story is a timeless tale of the strength of love in times of strife. I would recommend this to any fan of historic fiction and romance!"
