"I loved this book. It was part apocalyptic and part fantasy. The writing was excellent, poetic and not rushed. Even in scenes were there was action, the writing stayed constant and not rushed. The characters we learn about through them but also by visions that the main character has. Each one has special and wonderful gifts, both powers and artistic. The reviews are very mixed and you either loved it hated it, but for me it was a 5⭐️ read. It also has LBGTQ elements, but they are subtle and nothing is overdone. <br/><br/><br/><br/>And more so because of the orange butterfly. I hold out my arm. It alights there, fanning its wings as if it has landed on a flower, on a sunny day, on a living planet. "I think the best way to put this is that Francesca Lia Block's books are not my kind of weird, because I definitely have liked weird books but hers never hit a chord for me. I never can suspend my disbelief with the magical realism elements and I'm never invested in the characters so the only saving grace is the brevity of her works.<br/><br/>I know many people love her, so if you like her style from her previous books more than likely you'll like this one too."

"So this is certainly fantastical, but I'm not sure I buy it. Even with a heavy dose of my usual willingness to suspend my disbelief, this book is just a bit too much. I mean Block's world-building is AMAZING, but this just did not hit me like I wanted. Perhaps coming into this with the Odyssey-retelling knowledge did it a disservice for me. I'm not sure.<br/><br/>On the Audio: Julia Whelan did a wonderful job reading this and helping to convey Block's tone and imagery."
