"The emotional damage that was just inflicted upon me. Holy heck with this love triangle and the two “Who did this to you” MMCs!!! 1000x yes to this sequel to Lightlark. The juxtaposition of present tense with glimpses of Isla and Grims past, built a crazy amount of tension. The way I was glued to the last 25% of this book. I don’t know if I need a minute to recover or if I’m thrilled that Skyshade was just released. Oh, who am I kidding?…I’m digging in immediately."
"Continued from book one, Isla stole the hearts two powerful rulers, broken the curses that plagued the six realms for centuries, but the origins of her powers were a mystery. Feeling betrayed by someone she thought she could trust, not knowing what to do with her duties as the newly crowned leader of two separate realms leaves her confused and at a loss to how to be a ruler of so many. Other rulers don’t believe her ascent to power was truly earned and she struggles to cement her new path.

Now a new danger is threatening Lightlark and secrets from the past begin to unravel as she slowly remembers things from her past. She doesn’t want to care for Grim, the man who lied to her and tries to cling to what she thinks she knows. Oro cares for her, and she loves him too. She tries to convince herself that the love between her and Grim was all a lie, but as memories trickle in she is finding it harder to deny what she feels for him no matter how many times she says she hates him.

What is she willing to sacrifice for her people, to save Lightlark from being destroyed? The answers to her questions all come to light in the end when she feels her life escape in the war and the two men she loved were battling to the death.

The ending was a bit of a surprise, but not a huge shock. It made some things fall into place thinking back on events that happened in the first book through this one.

I wish there was a bit more story involved with her familiar Lynx (sp?). I was a missed opportunity to learn more about her mother and maybe some new information and or hints about her powers that was hidden through most of the books. Also, I’m not sure if I missed why Oro didn’t give in to all that Isla wanted from him ("
"OH MY GOSH the ending again in the book. Alex aster writes the best ending. the beginning of the book was slow but when it got to the middle it was good. but i can't believe it on a cliffhanger again. i love how we got more isla and grim and how they meant before that best book i read. i can't wait for the third book i wonder who she is going to choose i hope she will forgive grim and pick him.i can't wait!"
"First book finished of 2025. Decidedly more attention keeping than lightlark though it didn’t seem to grab and take hold of me until the last handful of chapters. "
