Emily McIntire
A dark contemporary romance from viral BookTok and USA Today bestselling author Emily McIntire, featuring reimagined characters from popular fairy tales and other stories. *** He is righteousness. She is sin. Father Cade Frédéric is a holy man. Brought up in the streets of Paris, he has dedicated his life to the church. But there's a monster that lingers just beneath the surface. A sickness. One that bleeds darkness and feeds on the damned. When he's tasked to become the priest in Festivalé, Vermont, a town both beautiful in architecture and riddled with despair, his sickness sings, demanding he rid the place of evil. Amaya Paquette is Festivalé's beautiful mystery. She spends her days caring for her younger brother and her nights transforming into Esmeralda, dancing for greedy eyes and shameless lips. Although she longs for love, she shies away from companionship, afraid of being abandoned again. When Father Cade lays eyes on Amaya, he finds himself ensnared, convinced she's using witchcraft to lure him to her. He can't eat. Can't breathe. Can't think unless it's of her. And temptation is a devastating mistress. She's his weakness, so he decides he'll be her demise...even if it means killing the only woman he might ever love. Crossed joins the Never After series as a dark and sexy reimagining of a classic tale, twisting it into an enticing new shape for mature readers. "I went into this thinking it would be heavy spice like her first two in the series but it really only started heavy spice after like 200+ pages in. This story touched on some bullying and being outcasts, struggles with internal monsters and abuse. Read the trigger warnings. Forbidden romance, would give 3.5 ⭐️"

"Slow burn romance. I felt there were some parts of this story that were unnecessary. The idea of her brother, who is on the spectrum, being used as the Quasimodo in this story was a big turn off for me but I pushed through anyway because I had faith this story would get better. But it soon became predictable. Amaya’s point of view was boring and she was repetitive. Cade was more interesting and I enjoyed reading his view better. There really wasn’t much character growth for either of them up until the very end was disappointing. "

"I loved it. This was a breeze in the park to read. This was a good slow burn. Character dynamics was perfect. Ugh, I miss the series now. "

"Amazing book that was completely captivating. A bit odd with the romance involved with serial killing but still good. The descriptions in the scenes were amazing and painted the atmosphere vividly in my mind. Very well written. 5⭐️"

"I loved this book! This one is the most recent one in the series! It is an inspiration of the hunchback of notre dame! So good! Highly recommend!"

"Amazing rendition for the villain Claude. Loved Cade, maybe more than I should have."

"I love Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame, so I was very much looking forward to finally getting to this book. I wasn’t crazy about it. Maybe I just anticipated something different. The resolution was messy and over simplified. I never loved MMC like I wanted. Honestly, the FMC’s best friend was my favorite character in the book and she deserved better."

"I'd give it a 0/5 stars actually.<br/>I've read all the other books in this series. They are very dark and twisted smutty romance, like "Hooked" was probably the most messed up book I've read... and I actually didn't mind that one. The reason I had to dnf this one is because I have a really hard time with romance books that have priest kinks. I can't do it. Not to mention that this priest would also be classified as a serial killer?? This one was too far for me, pushed my tolerance limit."
