"I was assigned this book in a Country Music & Lit college seminar for some strange reason. It was an enjoyable enough read, providing insight into a world that I know NOTHING about. The glimpses into the restaurant scene were interesting, and it was intriguing for me personally because my father worked a short while as a cook. But overall, the subject matter just couldn't hold my attention that well. I'm not a "foodie." But while I was reading it, I kept coming up with friends I knew who I thought would enjoy it. If you have someone who loves food or restaurants, I definitely would recommend it to them."

"I don't typically read nonfiction and this was a book club selection. One of the reasons I like book club is because it takes me out of my comfort zone to read things I wouldn't pick up myself. I was nervous at first because I love eating out and was afraid there would be stories in the book that would make me hesitant to do so. Thankfully, this was not the case. The book at various times was entertaining, funny, and infuriating. I'm glad I read it. Didn't hate it, didn't love it - much the same as my feelings for the author."
