"This novel was okay. I read it immediately after reading ‘The Red Palace,’ which was a mistake because that novel is fantastic. The plot of this novel is definitely interesting and I like the plot twist, but I didn’t like the protagonist of the book… she was a bit annoying to be honest because she was constantly throwing herself a pity party for nearly half the story. However, June Hur, of course, laid out the plot and paced the novel well, as she always does. "
"While the culture and historical bits of the story in here were very interesting—as well as the path of growth I could tell the main character was on—I just couldn’t get pulled into the story for some reason. It could have been the narrator which was very slow since I listened on audiobook. Im going to give this another shot in the future with a physical copy or maybe even try listening of 1.5x speed which I’ve never tried for an audiobook before!

DNF at 25%"
