"I used to rent this on VHS all the time as a kid and I cant believe that I didn't read the book till now. I enjoyed revisiting my childhood with this well written unique fantasy tale. I also found the story and the unicorn a little bit of a feminist icon. She gives up her easy life in the forest with no seasons to go on a long and treacherous journey to save her fellow unicorns. She is basically saying she cant be free unless all of the kind are free. Her friends, and even her lover, know that she is not something to be possessed but they take joy in being in her presence and helping her fulfill her goals. The "princess" saves herself in this one..."
