"Although Slaughter continues to be a master of dialog, the content of this book was far too dark for me. I think it's almost imperative to read trigger warnings before starting this book."

Kisscut by Karin Slaughter is a gripping, dark, and intense thriller that kept me thoroughly engaged from start to finish. The second book in the *Grant County* series delves deep into the complexities of its characters and the disturbing crimes they encounter. Karin Slaughter does an exceptional job of blending suspense with psychological depth, creating a chilling atmosphere that made it hard to put down.
The plot is both brutal and poignant, tackling tough subjects with raw emotion and unflinching realism. The crime at the heart of the story is harrowing, and Slaughter doesn't shy away from exploring the deep trauma it leaves behind for both the victims and those investigating. The characters, particularly medical examiner Sara Linton, are well-developed and multi-dimensional, and I found myself invested in their personal struggles just as much as the main mystery.
While Kisscut is a powerful and well-executed thriller, there were a few moments where the pacing slowed a bit, and the graphic nature of some scenes may be unsettling for some readers. Still, it’s a compelling read for fans of dark, character-driven crime novels.
Overall, Kisscut is a solid installment in the *Grant County* series. It’s emotionally intense, filled with shocking twists, and offers a powerful exploration of human resilience. I’m looking forward to reading more from Karin Slaughter! 4 stars. "
