From the New York Times best-selling author of River of Shadows and Black Sunshine comes a new dark gothic romance duet about how love can transcend the ages, but at a deadly cost. Is it her destiny to love him? Or is it her destiny to die? Valtu Aminoff is no stranger to tragedy. Though many know him as the enigmatic vampire that inspired Bram Stoker's Dracula, Valtu's complex life is far more horrific than any fiction could imagine. When you lose the love of your life over and over again, it can do more than break your heart-it can corrupt your soul. It's up to his new lover to decide if Valtu's damaged soul is even worth saving. But destiny isn't done with Valtu yet. And tragedy is always around the corner. Black Rose is the sequel to Blood Orange and is not a standalone.

"The grief was hard to bare. It hit deep. Only later did I discover that the author was going thru some things while trying to finish the book. Seems to reason that it helped and hindered the story. Helped in that the grief was so prominent I felt myself hurting for the characters. But on the other hand, the battle which we were led up to got cut short, and I was left wanting. The plot felt incomplete.

I was very much enthralled by this duology though. Dahlia and Valtu were complex creatures. Dahlia living different lives is a hardship all on its own but for Valtu to keep waiting and to be unsure of his future. Well, let's just say I couldn't fault him for the steps he took even if some would think him cowardice. He was just trying to survive it.

Twenty-one years later and we were thrown immediately into the plot which I appreciated. I needed to know exactly what happened and I needed to know now. Sadly though Black Rose was a little more erotica than plot and I think the story suffered greatly for it.

Dahlia's reincarnated selves were intriguing though. My heart ached for what she had to do. I was so conflicted. Should she have left him alone? I'm not sure. Their warring hearts made the story for me though so I cheered her on. One heart made of glass one made of stone. In the end, I still loved this heartbreak and I wish there would have been more patience with the battle. All else was perfect to me but the easily stitched-up ending put a dampener on the atmosphere. The author could have removed the conflict entirely and it wouldn't have made a difference. That's how unimportant it felt."

"I could not put this series down. I believe I finished both books in 2 days. It's an amazing reimagining of Dracula. The twists the turns, the way the characters start as enemies but are destined together. Perfect! Loved every moment of this set!"
